The full game is divided into three stages; Stage 1 is the auctioning and leasing of horses, when players bid for their choice. Stage 2 is the training and preparation of the horses for the race. Horses which may be seen as outsiders during bidding, may improve their value during training and vice versa. Stage 3 involves the race itself, once betting has taken place.
