| Only two rules are essential and as in real sailing apply to manoeuvring. - tacking against the wind - blanketing your opponent by blocking them from the wind ie. taking the wind out of their sails. By calculated blanketing, players lengthen their moves and strategically place their yacht for baulking an opponent.A really simple and exciting yacht racing game. Moves are determined by a special pack of movement and wind cards determing number of moves according to conditions; - calm; player cannot move - fresh breeze; select another card and add 3 to the moves number drawn - strong wind; select two cards and move accordingly - gale; only used in the pack from the second round. A second card is chosen and if 7 or 8 the yachts must return to harbour immediately. If less than 7, the gale card can be ignored. A moveable wind direction arrow is included with the game board to remind players of the wind direction for tacking and blanketing. On the IOW map, players race their yacht clockwise around the board from the starting line and into the harbour keeping the buoys to starboard. On the Long Island NY map, players race their yacht anti-clockwise around the course keeping the buoys to port. Designed by K. Adlard Coles, editor of The Yachtsman. J Dring specialised in nautical games in the 1930s and 1940s. |
