Ouija gives you entertainment you have never experienced. It draws the two people using it into close companionship ... [It is] unquestionably the most fascinating entertainment for modern people and modern life". With these words in 1892, William Fuld, entrepreneur and toy maker invited the public to experience Ouija, the wonderful talking board (a generic name for message boards with numbers, letters and a movable message indicator). The word ‘talking’ was later dropped from the Ouija name. In his patent application William wrote "A question is asked and by the involuntary muscular action of the players, or through some other agency, the frame will commence to move across the table". |
