The idea of the game is to buy and rent or sell properties profitably, the wealthiest player wins. Starting from Go move the tokens around the board according to the throw of the dice. When a player's token lands on a space not already owned, the property may be bought or it is auctioned to the highest bidder. The object of owning property is to collect rents from opponents stopping there. Rentals are greatly increased by the erection of houses and hotels, so it is wise to build them on some of your building sites. To raise more money, building sites may be mortgaged to the bank. Community chest and chance cards give instructions that must be followed. Sometimes players land in jail. The game is one of shrewd and amusing trading and excitement. There are also rules for a shorter version. There are some differences;

- earn Poke money instead of £s
- houses have been replaced by Poke centres; hotels have been replaced by Poke marts. Use these to improve your Pokemon gyms and earn more Poke money
.

- Professor Oak and trainer battle spaces and cards replace the classic chance and community chest spaces and cards
- game board spaces and corresponding title deeds cards contain the name and number of the Pokemon you are catching. All the values are the same as the corresponding deeds in the standard game.
- If you catch all of the Pokemon ie. own all the sites in one colour-group you have earned the badge for that gym
- in place of the traditional stations there are four types of Poke balls
- choose from 6 collectable Pokemon movers
