'Fair Means or Foul', so runs the motto of the secretive club antique, on the fringe of London 's exclusive club land. Here are people whose passions are dedicated to hunting down the historical, the beautiful, the odd, the whimsical; anything indeed that has rarity value.
Each year the club organises a competition to discover who will earn their collector of the year award at the club's annual dinner. Competitors must collect pieces from six categories, chosen secretly and at random. This year the categories are; pipes, toys, advertising posters, folk masks; Hollywood memorabilia and chamber pots.
Competitors are allowed £50,000 each to spend. Pieces may be acquired by fair means or foul from London 's leading auction houses, or by stealing from other competitors.
As collections are built up, competitors exhibit them around the country's stately homes, scoring points which will move them nearer to the coveted place at the head of the table at the annual dinner.
