1 x loose leaf instructions, 62 pages 1 x plastic unit used as game board and page holder 15 x black counters 15 x white counters 2 x white dice 2 x red dice Backgammon is a game for 2 players in which chance (the roll of the dice) and skill (your choice of moves) determine the winner. A leading expert admits that a lucky beginner can defeat a skilled professional. Learning Backgammon is made simple with this unique, progressive, step by step method, ‘all by yourself’. Move pieces on a large plastic window over a backgammon board diagram and insert the current page underneath. The instructions and diagrams begin with the basics for beginners, after which you will play an illustrative game, accompanied by explanations of the moves. There are also more advanced elements of the game and suggestions for strategy in critical situations. No 2 games are the same. Remarkably, there can never be a tie. Cat and mouse roles change constantly and even late in the game a lucky throw of the dice or a strategic move, can turn the tables. |

| Bearing; remove your men from the inner table after assembly, by throw of dice Block; - 2 or more men on a point or points cannot be hit though your opponent’s men may pass over Blot; a single man on a point, liable to be hit and sent to the bar to start again Game; won by the player who is first to bear off all men Hit; move a man to a point occupied by your opponent's man Re-enter; a hit man begins again from the inner table before any other play Points; 24 long, triangular shaped spaces on the tables Doubling; double stake at any time of perceived advantage. Your opponent must accept or concede the current stake. The large dice is placed in a prominent position with the 2 face up and is now controlled by the opponent, who in turn has the right to redouble again at a later time. In theory this may happen up to 6 times (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64). Although the origins of Backgammon are uncertain, its earliest known ancestor dates back some 5,000 years to southern Mesopotamia (now Iraq). Since then under various names and in various versions, archaeologists have found traces in all parts of the world. The game became a favourite of Pharaohs, of ancient Emperors and later, of European Royalty, who considered it a game of nobility and distinction. Despite its heritage, its popularity continues to grow because any level of play is exciting, from a competitive international tournament to a friendly family pastime.
